The reason is: 'bride" is only for the moment you are married or before (such as bride-to-be). After that, you are spouse. Your statement shall be for after the marriage.
To avoid repeating "respect, familiarize, culture ..." in the same paragraph, I have somehow altered the Chinese statement a little.
